What types of sewing machines do you service?

I service domestic sewing machines of all ages, including newer everyday machines, older mechanical machines, treadle machines, hand-crank machines, and vintage sewing machines.

What brands and types of machines do you service?

Over 25 years of technical experience servicing a wide variety of domestic machines, ranging from vintage all-metal classics (Singer, Pfaff, Husqvarna Viking, Sears Kenmore, New Home, White Rotary, Bernina, Brother, Janome) to modern computerized embroidery and sewing systems.

What is included in a standard mechanical tune-up?

A full service includes complete internal cleaning to remove lint and thread debris, precision tension calibration, hook timing alignment, lubrication of all moving mechanical parts, and a comprehensive test stitch-out on multiple fabric weights.

Do you restore vintage sewing machines?

Yes. I restore vintage sewing machines with or without repainting. Restoration may include mechanical repairs, rewiring, cast-metal work, treadle restoration, paint, and decal replacement.

Do you repaint vintage sewing machines?

Yes. Repainting and new decals can be included in a vintage restoration.

Do you service industrial sewing machines?

No. I currently service domestic sewing machines only and do not service industrial or commercial machines.

Scheduling and Drop-Off

How do I schedule service?

Do I need an appointment to drop off my machine?

Yes. Rin’s Restorations is a private, appointment-only workshop in Richmond, Texas. The exact drop-off address is provided after your appointment is confirmed.

Do you offer house calls?

House calls are available on a case-by-case basis. They may be appropriate for heavy, cabinet-mounted, or difficult-to-transport machines. Please provide your location and machine details so I can determine whether an in-home visit is possible.

Pricing and Timing

How much does service or restoration cost?

The cost depends on the machine’s condition and the work required. Mechanical repairs, rewiring, repainting, decals, treadle work, and cabinet work can all affect the final cost. I provide an evaluation and estimate before additional work begins.

How long does service take?

Service timelines vary by project scope; standard tune-ups and minor repairs are completed much faster than comprehensive vintage mechanical overhauls and cosmetic restorations.

Can every vintage sewing machine be repaired?

While most vintage machines are remarkably durable and mechanically fixable, repairability depends heavily on parts availability, the severity of internal wear, and whether the casting is cracked. During the initial bench evaluation, your machine's condition is assessed to determine if a full restoration is practical.

Policies

Do you repair wooden cabinets?

Cabinet woodworking is completed by a subcontractor. I handle the sewing machine, cast-metal components, mechanics, electrical work, rewiring, and treadle portions of the restoration.

What payment methods do you accept?

Payment is due in full when service is completed. I accept cash, Zelle, Venmo, and Cash App. At this time, I do not accept credit cards or personal checks.

Do you offer a warranty?

A limited warranty may apply to eligible repairs and restorations. The applicable coverage is explained in the service terms and on your invoice.
